Kajiki / A‘u

Pacific Blue Marlin, known locally as Kajiki or A‘u, are the crown jewel of Hawaiian sportfishing. Powerful, fast, and capable of reaching enormous sizes, they are the most sought-after big game fish in the islands. For anglers, hooking a Blue Marlin is more than just a catch—it’s the ultimate offshore challenge and one of the most thrilling experiences in all of deep-sea fishing.

Size & Sportfishing Appeal

Blue Marlin are the ultimate prize of Hawaiian sportfishing. In local waters, they average around 200 pounds, but these giants can grow well over 1,000 pounds, with Hawaii holding some of the largest marlin ever caught in the Pacific. Known for their speed, acrobatics, and stamina, they are the biggest, strongest, and most exciting fish an angler can battle.

Fishing Methods

Most Blue Marlin in Hawaii are caught by trolling with heavy tackle, artificial lures, or live bait across deep offshore waters. They are also taken by longline vessels, but for sportfishing charters, trolling remains the primary and most thrilling method to hook into one of these ocean titans.

Why They’re Prized

Blue Marlin are not only celebrated for their fight but also valued at the table. Their firm, mild-flavored flesh is versatile—excellent for grilling, searing, or enjoying raw as sashimi or poké. For both anglers and seafood lovers, Kajiki represents the best of what Hawaiian deep-sea fishing has to offer.

Season & Availability

We catch A‘u (Pacific Blue Marlin) year-round in Hawaii, with recent years being outstanding. Known as the largest, most powerful, and most exhilarating of all Hawaii’s game fish, hooking a Blue Marlin promises the fight of a lifetime. Peak seasons run from April through September. During these warmer months, they are more active and abundant, making summer and early fall the best times to target them.
